Ruby Trew is a rare dual-sport talent representing Australia in both skateboarding and surfing.
Her passion began almost as soon as she could stand—her dad first put her on a surfboard at just six months old, and by the age of five she was skateboarding. A year later, she was already competing in contests across both sports.
Her talent shone early. At just ten years old, Ruby won silver for Australia at the 2019 World Skateboarding Championships in Barcelona in the women’s vert event. That same year, she claimed the NSW Under-12 State Surfing title and the National Oz Grom under-12 girls surfing crown at Lennox Head.
In 2021, she continued her dual-sport dominance, winning the Woolworths National Under-14 Surfing Title as well as the Women’s National Park Skateboarding contest on the Gold Coast.
Identified as a future star by both Surfing Australia and Skateboarding Australia, Ruby has since focused more closely on skateboarding. Her breakthrough came in 2023, when she won silver at the World Skateboarding Pro Tour in San Juan, Argentina.
In 2024, Ruby achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games in park skateboarding. At just 15 years old, she became the seventh youngest Australian Olympian in history.
Looking ahead, Ruby plans to return her focus to both skate and surf with an eye on selection for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, making her one of the most exciting young multi-discipline athletes in the world.
